VICTOR KORETSKY (1909-1998) [WE WANT PEACE!] 1950.
351/2x23 inches.
Condition B: tears and creases in margins; creases in image; tape on verso. Paper.
An exceptional political cartoon from one of the masters of Russian graphic propaganda during the Stalinst era. Amongst the "vilified" Western leaders seated around the table, from left to right are Dean Acheson, Harry Truman, Winston Churchil and Charles de Gaulle. On the table (the green felt indicative of the poker game being played with the fate of the world) they are making plans with an atomic bomb, a spy plane, a canon and a spy boat. Koretsky, well known for his photomontage images, has veered towards cartoon in his juxtaposition of the heroic (gargantuan) worker and the vile (rodent-like) leaders of the imperialist countries. Note that the only photographically "real" image on the poster is that of the overall-clad worker. Images of Power 177.
